Summer Mountain Leader Award

The Mountain Leader Award (Summer) offers the opportunity to gain technical competence in leading walkers in the hills. The scheme is intended for those leading groups in mountains or remote country where walkers are dependant upon themselves. It is the combination of technical skills, wide experience and personal qualities which forms the basis for effective group management.

The scheme is recognised by the Health and Safety Executive and the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority as being an appropriate award for 'trekking ' in summer conditions.

The scheme consists of six stages:
  1. Gain personal hill-walking experience
  2. Registration and issue of log book
