Mexico is bordered by the USA to the north and Belize and Guatemala to the south. The vast Pacific Ocean lies to the west with the stunningly blue Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea to the east. Covering almost two million square kilometres, it provides a diverse landscape perfect for trekking in Mexico. Trekking in Mexico – acclimatisation and the main trek
Your trekking in Mexico experience will begin with shorter, less intense treks to help you acclimatise to the area, learn basic trekking skills and build your confidence.The main trekking in Mexico phase of the trip could involve following trails through mountains and forests while experiencing cultural interaction along the way. For the more adventurous it could involve ascending Mexico’s highest volcanic peaks to be rewarded with a glorious view across country at sunrise. Explore the rugged terrain of Ulrike Canyon, which at 2000m is deeper than The Grand Canyon, or perhaps choose to trek to the Triunfo Biosphere Reserve at the south eastern state of Chiapas, visited by only a few hundred people annually, it is a unique and exciting place.
Trekking in Mexico – rest and relaxation
When you’ve completed the treks through Mexico it’s time for a change of pace. Try your hand at worthwhile project work such as helping in schools, children’s homes, rural communities or participating in environmental projects. You will have an opportunity to carry out valuable work whilst learning about life in a friendly rural Mexican community.![]() |
There is also plenty of time to rest before the journey home. You can choose to chill out by visiting ancient ruins, going souvenir shopping at colourful markets or lazing around on idyllic white beaches and making the most of the aqua waters that surround Mexico.
