Press Release - No surcharge for expeditions departing 2011
Released 08/06/09
World Challenge, the UK’s leading educational overseas expedition provider has guaranteed that customers will not be surcharged on expeditions leaving in 2011.
Nigel Miller, managing director, World Challenge explains, “As the market leader in educational overseas expeditions, we felt we should lead the way in ensuring customers don’t get hit by unexpected additional costs. In an uncertain market, schools needs to feel reassured that their trips are secure and there are no nasty surprises. I believe this is why many schools are choosing us – not just our unrivalled reputation for safety and excellent customer service but our open-book pricing and financial security.”
The newly-launched brochure highlights the programmes new structure which incorporates the educational framework of the LOtC objectives into the expeditions. It also highlights the benefits of taking part in an expedition to Challengers, who can earn 70 UCAS points in addition to a life-changing experience.
Miller continues, “It has been a record year for World Challenge worldwide with around 6,000 Challengers departing on expedition with us in 2009 from the UK, Australia, USA and The Middle East. The UK team has recently moved to new offices in High Wycombe in which incorporates a new state-of-the-art Operations Centre. Safety and support for our challengers is of paramount importance and the unrivalled back up offered by our Operations team is unique to World Challenge.”
Miller goes on to add, “The fact remains that taking part in a World Challenge is a truly valuable and rewarding experience for every individual. It gives the Challenger the crucial life skills they need in an ever-demanding commercial environment – negotiation, delegation, inter-personal skills in addition to learning how to financially budget and fundraise to complete their programme. The best part of my job is talking with parents at the airport who have witnessed their son or daughter depart on our expeditions and return young adults with the skills they need to face the real world.”
Grant Ferguson, a School Leader from Bury Grammar School for Boys has taken groups to Mongolia and Peru. Ferguson comments, “It has been the best activity that I have been involved in for school children. It is demanding, but that makes it extremely fulfilling. There are so many challenges that it adds layer upon layer to a student’s skill set in a short period of time, and in a real context.”
This is further endorsed by HTI* Chief Executive Anne Evans, ”World Challenge’s aims fit perfectly with the national Go4it campaign to improve innovation, enterprise and employability in schools. At HTI we hope that teachers across the UK will seek to free pupils from a ‘cotton wool culture’ by applying for a Go4it award.”
