Turkey is a land of variety. With an incredible coastline made up of four seas, a landscape scattered with ruined castles and a selection of national parks and cosmopolitan cities, there is an incredible amount to see and do.

The now extinct volcano, Mount Erciyes, has left its mark on the landscape of Cappadocia. The rugged moonscape contains underground dwellings, houses carved into the rock and cave churches. The area is famous for its fairy chimneys; tall, thin spires of rock that protrude from the bottom of the arid drainage basin. It’s a mystical and beautiful place to visit.

The Taurus Mountain range is one of the youngest in the world and was formed after the collision of the European and African plates. The bare rocky crags are edged with lush forests which are thriving with wildlife. With beautiful waterfalls, lakes, caves and underground rivers, the area is filled with challenges for hikers and climbers as well as those seeking stunning scenery.

The Kaçkar Mountains are filled with steep peaks and stunning alpine lakes. With pretty villages and vibrant green landscape, the lower valleys are an exceptional walking destination. Here you can see butterflies fluttering over exotic wild flowers and watch deer and mountain goats grazing.

Straddling two continents, Istanbul is an ancient city filled with mosques, bazaars, trendy bars and winding streets. Combining a contemporary European city with rich eastern heritage, Istanbul is a great place to chill out and absorb some culture.

Bordering Turkey, Syria is filled with beautiful ruins, ancient monuments and cities that are on the World Heritage list.

Syria’s capital city, Damascus, has a medieval charm, with its walled city, labyrinthine alleyways and street markets where you can barter for local crafts while you get lost in the traditional way of life.

The beautiful ruins of Palmyra date back to the 2nd century. The city was a stopover point in the middle of the desert and fell into disuse in the 16th century. New archeological discoveries are still being made so it’s a fascinating place to explore.

Jordan is another country to blend archaeological treasures with breathtaking landscapes and as well as offering a range of important biblical sites.

The ancient and beautiful lost city of Petra is an unmissable tourist attraction. The intricate city was carved into the sheer rock face more than 2000 years ago by the Nabataeans. It is often described as the eight wonder of the world and is a worthy rival of Machu Picchu in Peru.

In addition to a rich cultural heritage, Jordan has outstanding scenery. The remote Wadi Rum offers endless stretches of pink desert sand, rocky towers and deep, rugged canyons.
