Arrival in Iceland
Teams will fly into Keflavik airport and from here it is short bus journey to Reykjavik city centre where teams spend the first night in a youth hostel. Teams will head by bus the following morning to the start of the trail at Landmannalauger where there are also some natural hot springs.
Main trekking phase on the short haul Iceland expedition
Teams will trek the 4 day Laugavegurinn trail in the Fjallabak Nature reserve, from Landmannalauger to the beautiful wooded valley of Thórsmörk. Laugavegurinn is Iceland’s ultimate trail to trek, known as the Hot Spring Road. It is a demanding but hugely rewarding trek where conditions can be harsh depending on the weather. The team will get to experience one of the best trekking and wilderness areas in Europe, offering mountains of every colour of the rainbow, glaciers, roaring hot springs, rivers and lakes.
A 10 day expedition itinerary in Iceland gives teams the opportunity to explore the Laugavegurinn trail at a slower pace. Teams will be able to experience the panoramic views from Bratthals and to see Torfahlaup, where the river Markarfljot has been constricted and forced through a 15 metre wide canyon.
Rest and relaxation in Iceland
After completing the trek, the team will have time to explore the attractions of Reykjavik and its surroundings. There will also be time to visit the famous Blue Lagoon and bathe in the milky blue geothermal spa surrounded by a surreal landscape of black lava or to go on a whale and dolphin watching trip.
