As part of the Specialist and Activity sector within the TUI Group, World Challenge provides educational expeditions for school groups. We offer the opportunity for over 400 groups to enter into a programme of learning and development; fundraising; and team building, culminating in a 1-6 week Expedition to one of our exciting destinations in the developing world.

Driving the operations of our business is product department, responsible for delivering high quality, risk assessed expedition itineraries to over 50 destinations worldwide. Our product department have recently gone through an exciting transformation, which sees them now working as Continent teams with in-depth specialist knowledge of, and commercial responsibility for, the destinations in their portfolio.

We are now looking for an inspirational leader for our Latin and South America Continent Team, to work on a contract basis to cover maternity leave.

What you’ll be doing…
As the Continent Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the profitability, safety and quality for all Expeditions travelling to Latin and South America.

You will ensure that we are offering our teams quality community project work that meets their expectations and providing timely and effective delivery of information to our customers. In addition, you will negotiate with NGOs / partners in your Continent and ensure that we are adding value to the project host and their community.

Working in conjunction with the Head of Research and Development, you will be responsible for the research and development of expeditions across the continent portfolio. This will involve conducting recces to new and existing expedition destinations, meeting with local suppliers.

As the Line Manager for three staff within the Continent portfolio, you will be responsible for training, appraisals, development, sickness, holidays and performance management.

Finally, you will also plan the itineraries for up to 20 teams for expeditions travelling to destinations within the portfolio, ensuring that the expeditions are high quality, safe and within budget.

What we’re looking for…
  • Significant developing world travel experience, including good knowledge of a number of destinations within relevant Continent.
  • Spanish language skills essential.
  • Line management experience.
  • Experience of conducting risk assessments of adventurous activities.
  • Experience of managing the profitable delivery of products or services.
  • Budgetary management.
  • Good commercial acumen.
  • Confident and decisive with the ability to use own judgment to make decisions without direct supervision.
  • Influencing and Negotiation skills.
  • Adaptable and able to cope with multiple changes in a dynamic and progressive working environment.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Experience of Expedition Planning and management of overseas reports would be an advantage but not essential.
