Acclimatisation in China
Emei Shan/Hua Shan:
These short 2 day treks take the team up some of China’s most famous sacred mountains. Often following a procession of pilgrims, the team will pass monasteries, temples and remarkable views, and will be rewarded with a sunrise or sunset at either summit.

Longji terraces: This 2 – 3 day trek through the magnificent rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone in Longsheng will allow the team to explore the green hills, limestone karst peaks, fantastic caves and crystal clear waters of the Li River.

Main trekking phase in China
Guangxi Province – Dong Minority trek: Trekking through the low lying mountains and rice terraces provides an amazing cultural experience in this remote and rarely visited area rich in ethnic diversity.

Sichuan Province- The Tagong Grasslands:  On the Tibetan Plateau, this area offers the chance to trek at altitude in the shadow of Jola Shan, a sacred, snow capped Tibetan Buddhist Mountain.

Sichuan Province – The Minya Gongga: The predominantly Tibetan area of Kanding offers spectacular scenery, winding through towns and hamlets surrounded by high peaks and passes.

Project work on the China expedition
The majority of projects in China are likely to be community-based and could involve working with orphanages or schools, renovating playgrounds or painting classrooms. The project phase offers Challengers a wonderful opportunity to mix with the friendly local people.

Rest and relaxation
Teams can choose to visit one of the many vibrant cities China has to offer. A trip to the Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City in Beijing offers a glimpse into the long eventful history of China, while Shanghai’s Bund and Nanjing road provides an opportunity to see China’s bright lights. Hong Kong’s Temple Street night market and crossing Victoria Harbour on the famous Star Ferry provide an exciting contrast to mainland China.
