Stages to becoming an Expedition Leader

  • Initial vetting of experience and qualifications
     
  • Successful completion of our potential leader training and assessment course
     
  • Confirmation of placement on expedition (Usually 1 week after course)
     
  • Parent's Information Evening – The Leader is required to meet the team and their parents one evening at the school or college.
    • A short presentation and introduction by a World Challenge member of staff
    • A short introduction by the leader, talking about past experience and qualifications
    • A chance for the Challengers to ask any questions about kit, the destination etc

     
  • Some leaders also choose to do some walking weekends with the team before leaving on expedition. Although this is encouraged, it is not compulsory.
     
  • All leaders to attend a 1-day Expedition Preparation Conference. This essential to the safe delivery of all expeditions.
    Information included:
    • Destination-specific workshops and up dates
    • Up to date medical information
    • Back up and safety systems
    • Insurance information
    • Expedition leadership 

     
  • Leader to attend the build-up day (day prior to departure) at the school or college where all kit will be delivered and checked, emergency contact information given and checked, team-building exercises completed and general last-minute preparation concluded.
